El El Frijoles

7 Deliciously Punny Restaurant Names Around the World

SmarterTravel

These restaurants deserve five-stars for their pun-themed names alone (but we hear the food is pretty good at these places as well). These seven eateries around the world will serve you up a laugh along with your meal.

El El Frijoles, Maine, USA

Maine is the birthplace of the rugged American outdoor brand L.L. Bean, and many tourists visit their flagship store in Freeport each year to snap a photo with the oversized Bean Boot. The Maine Mexican restaurant El El Frijoles honors the L.L. Bean legacy with its clever name (“frijoles” means beans in Spanish).

Pho Keene Great, New Hampshire, USA

Some people in Keene, New Hampshire, didn’t see the humor in the new restaurant Pho Keene Great’s name (the Vietnamese word “pho” is pronounced “fuh”, if you don’t get the pun). Located in Keene’s City Hall building, the eatery faced protests from opponents who deemed their restaurant sign and name “offensive”. Fortunately, Pho Keene Great was allowed to keep their name, and now serves up delicious pho and tasty puns.

A Salt and Battery, New York, USA

A Salt and Battery brings traditional fish and chips and a bit of British humor to New York City. Come here for lightly battered, deep-fried fish and chips served with malt vinegar—and be sure to snap a photo with their clever sign.

Just Falafs, Victoria, Australia

Come here just for laughs at the name or just for some falafel—Australia’s Just Falafs has you covered. Despite the title, this little shop does serve up more than falafel (there’s also halloumi plates, salad, and other delicacies on offer).

Fishcotheque, London, England

After a long night out at the discotheque, you might want to stop at the Fishcotheque on your way home. London’s most cleverly named chippy gets five-star reviews for the food and fun atmosphere.

Juan in a Million, Texas, USA

You might say a restaurant that pulls off it’s pun-themed name is “one in a million”, but Juan in a Million makes it happen. This family-run Texan restaurant was started by Juan and Myrna Meza, but apparently, only Juan’s name was pun-worthy enough to make it as the headliner.

The Garden of Eat’n, California, USA

Experience the Garden of Eaden (or at least The Garden of Eat’n) on your lunch break. This fast-casual California spot offers quick and healthy farm-to-fork meals to people on-the-go.
