Disney is on every little kid’s bucket list—and on lots of big kids’, too. But a trip to one of the parks for a family can be an expensive endeavor. With Disneyland’s 60th anniversary being celebrated this year, and with the recent announcement that The Walt Disney co. will be investing $1 billion to spruce up its parks in Anaheim, California, travel booking site Hipmunk wanted to find out exactly how much the Disney trip of a lifetime actually costs—and which park is more affordable, California’s Disneyland or Florida’s Walt Disney World.
Hipmunk looked at prices for a family of four at each park, including airfare (averaging all round-trip flights departing from the top 30 U.S. airports and arriving at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, Calif. and at Orlando International Airport); hotel rates for four nights (average hotel price in the Anaheim and Orlando areas, excluding all Disney-branded or affiliated hotels); park tickets (for four days); and snacks (goodies like the famous Dole Whip from the Tiki Juice Bar outside the Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland and Captain Cook’s and Aloha Isle at Disney World).

So what was the outcome? A Disney vacation for four will cost the family anywhere from $3227 to $4954, according to Hipmunk’s data. If the family is staying at a non-Disney property, Disney World is cheaper by nearly $250, and when staying at a Disney Resort, Disney World is about $900 less expensive.
